Of all the month of the year, the month of Karthik or Damodar is hundred times more than the ordinary month and this Purushottam month is one thousand times more powerful than the Karthik month. - Padma Purana

Glories of Purushottam Month (from Padma Purana and Skanda Purana):

1. Lord Sri Krishna declares: "Purushottam month has all the power I have to bless its observer. One who follows Purushottam Vrata (vow) will destroy all his past sinful reactions. Without performing Purushottam Vrata, one cannot be known as a devotee. The value of Purushottam Vrata is far more valuable than all other types of austerities and religious activities mentioned in the Vedas.Anyone who observes Purushottam Vrata will return to my abode, Goloka, at the end of his life".

2. Durvasa Muni pronounces: "Just by bathing in a holy river during Purushottam month, one becomes sinless. The glory of all other months is not equal to one-sixteenth of the glory of the Purushottam month. By bathing in a holy place, giving charity and chanting the Holy Name of Krishna during Purushottam month, all miseries are destroyed, one attains all kinds of perfection and fulfills all his desires".

3. Valmiki Muni remarks: "By observing Purushottam Vrata, one attains more benefit than performing one hundred horse sacrifices (ashvamedha yajna). All holy places live within the body of the follower of a Purushottam Vrata. Anyone who faithfully performs Purushottam Vrata will go to Goloka Vrindavana, Krishna's supreme planet".

4. Narada Muni vocalizes: "Purushottam month is the best of all months. Just by faithfully hearing the glories of Purushottam month, one attains Krishna-bhakti and immediately nullifies his sinful reactions. One who performs Purushottam Vrata properly will attain unlimited spiritual merits and go to the spiritual world after leaving his body".

5. Naimisaranya Sages unitedly speak: "Merciful Purushottam month acts like a desire tree to fulfill a devotee's desire".

If one sincerely worships Radha and Krishna in Purushottam month, he will attain everything. One who observes Purushottam Vrata, will burn up the reactions of all his bad karma and attain the direct service of Radha and Krishna.Purushottam month is the best month for all spiritual advancement because Krishna overlooks all the aparadhas/offenses.

It is called adhik (extra) masa because Sri Krishna has placed extra powers, mercy and blessings in this month, and also because one gets more results from any devotional act. Only devotional service (Krishna-bhakti) gives results in this holiest of all holy months.

Each day of the Purushottam month has special significance and gives results as per its significance. Ekadashi Amavasya and Poornima tithi are amongst the most auspicious days of this month. Fasting on Ekadashi date for this month and listening to the story of Purushottam Month gives auspicious results.

This period is believed to be the most favourable for spiritual upliftment. It is during this time that devotional practises and vows are highly beneficial. Lord Sri Krishna has placed all his potencies in mercy blessings in this month.

It is worshiped all over the universe by devotees, sages, demigods and even Laksmi Devi Herself. If one sincerely worships Sri Sri Radha Krishna in this month, he attains everything, all pious credits and virtues.

It is the best month for all - especially for spiritual advancement because in this highly auspicious month Lord Krishna overlooks all the offenses. Devotional practice during this month is said to bring offenders the chance to be forgiven. One who observes Purushottam Vrata, burns up the reactions of all his bad karmas and attains the direct service of Sri Radha and Krishna.

Of all months, Purushottam is Krishna's favorite month. In the Gita, Krishna says: "I am celebrated both in the world and in the Vedas as that Supreme person: Purushottam" (15.18). Just as Kirshna is the supreme among all incarnations, Purushottam is the supreme and holiest among all the months.
